What sets the 'BREATHRE' tire apart from others is its unique air purification feature. The tire operates on the principle of an air purifier, inhaling, purifying, and discharging contaminated air. This process helps to clean up air pollution, including soot, yellow dust, and fine dust.
The tire's exterior features an LED sensor that indicates the degree of fine dust pollution, allowing the user to monitor air quality. The interior of the tire is composed of a Filter-Sensor-Frame-Propeller-Module. This design utilizes the principle that air is introduced through the duct of the ventilator and the purified air is exhausted from the tread.
Developed by a team of designers including Seung-il Choi, Seung-Tae Shin, Hyo-Joong Kim, and Da-Hee Yu, the 'BREATHRE' tire project began in February 2016 in Korea and was completed a year later. The tire's design was inspired by the serious global issue of air pollution, which is predicted to become a significant obstacle to future development.
The 'BREATHRE' tire's design faced the challenge of incorporating an air purifier that could effectively inhale, purify, and discharge contaminated air. The designers overcame this by physically separating contaminants, which consist of solid particles, using a filter inside the tire.
In recognition of its innovative design and potential for significant impact, the 'BREATHRE' tire was awarded the prestigious Golden A' Vehicle, Mobility and Transportation Design Award in 2017. This award is granted to marvelous, outstanding, and trendsetting creations that reflect the designer's prodigy and wisdom, and that advance art, science, design, and technology.
With the 'BREATHRE' tire, Nexen Tire has demonstrated a commitment to addressing environmental challenges through innovative design. This groundbreaking tire not only revolutionizes the way we drive but also contributes to a cleaner, healthier environment.
